Government About to Tighten Emission Norms for Two-Wheeler’s

Two-wheeler which is the highest selling segment of the Indian Automobile industry is all set to receive some tighter emission norms this week. The segment is collectively responsible for contributing significantly towards air pollution.

As per recent study around 80% of the total automobile sales in India are two-wheelers, which are responsible for emitting four to five times more oxides of nitrogen when compared to petrol cars.

Various studies conducted have suggested that pollution caused by two-wheelers in cities like Delhi is very high. Out of the 1.97 crore vehicles sold in India in 2014-15, two-wheelers accounted for 1.6 crore. While we support the industry as it is a vehicle for middle-income groups, two-wheelers need to comply with stricter emission norms," said a government official.

Two-wheeler manufactures in India had earlier opposed this decision citing that tighter emission norms would impact the mileage of the vehicle significantly. As per the government norms NOx emission limit for BS-IV standard petrol car is 0.08 gram/km but for a two-wheeler, it is 0.39 gram/km. The BS-IV standard for new two-wheeler models will come into force from April 2016 & for existing model from April 2017.

With the government focusing on making long term policies that will help combat the air pollution, we hope that the companies & end customers understand the necessity of the same. While the government is making it compulsory for the manufacturers they would not have a hold on the say of customers as the two-wheelers with BS-IV standard will be slightly high on cost.

Looking ahead to buy second hand two wheelers in Delhi, visit Shriram Automall & experience their unique physical bidding platform to buy a pre-owned two wheeler easily from a wide range of vehicles.

India To Run On Ethanol Fuelled Vehicles Now

As the pollution level in the National capital & all over the country has reached to a dangerous level; the government is in a rush to implement policies that are intended towards curbing the rising air pollution. At first is the new Odd Even scheme proposed by the Delhi government that will stop the running of odd vehicles on one day & even on the other, this scheme has been opted from the successful run of similar scheme in Beijing this year. The second is ban on registration of diesel vehicles in the Delhi & NCR region by the supreme court of India.

Now to curb pollution the ministry will next month announce a policy that will allow automakers to manufacture flexible-fuel vehicles in the country.

Transport minister Mr. Nitin Gadkari at the annual general meeting of the Indian Sugar Mills Association said "We are working on a policy on flexi-fuel vehicles. As per the policy, these vehicles can run entirely on ethanol, but they have option for petrol as well. I will make this announcement before January 26,"

According to the sources, countries like US and Brazil are already running their vehicles on Ethanol. So, there is no need to conduct a major research on the same. This new policy will not only help cut crude oil import but also address the problem of pollution as Ethanol fuel emits over 80% carbon dioxide.

To kick start this new initiative the ministry has asked Germany’s biggest car maker Volkawagen to produce flexi-fuel vehicles.

Director General of ISMA, Abinash Verma said, "This is the future... The ethanol producing industry will react once there is demand."

As the government is all set to announce a policy relating Ethanol; the Auto industry will respond as its not a problem for them to produce flexi-fuel vehicles for India. The demand & infrastructure to supply 100% ethanol for blending with petrol is required.

With these new & innovative policies coming in we are sure that the country will soon witness reduced Air pollution, making the air clean. Meanwhile if you are looking ahead to contribute your share to reduce pollution you can rush to Shriram Automall to exchange your petrol or diesel vehicle with used cars with CNG, you will find wide range of used car that runs of CNG at fair price.

Commercials Vehicle Will Now Come With A ‘Dying Out’ Tag

Increasing air pollution concerns in India has ringed the bells for one and all of the country and the government seems in a hurry to take some corrective measure to try & control air pollution. As a result of the concern the government is proposing the phasing out of commercial vehicles in order to keep a check on vehicular pollution. Today there are more than 3.5 crore heavy commercial vehicles plying on Indian roads when seen to a total of 18 crore registered vehicles in India.

As per the proposal, two-axle mini trucks are taken off the road after 12 years, multi-axle vehicles after 15 years and trailers after 25 years. As per a top ministry official this announcement will be made public soon & will also cover private vehicles.

As per the proposal private vehicles will be allowed to ply on the roads till they comply with the pollution & fitness norms however as for the commercial vehicles the criteria strictly remains the same of its age. Government decided to exclude private vehicles from the proposal as they ply less when compared with the commercial vehicles & the later deteriorate faster than the private vehicles.

See Also: Mahindra launched supro van and supro truck

The proposal is attracting some criticism as the pundits’ thinks that government is acting like a marketing tool for vehicles manufacturers. They cite that the government should try & fix the faulty engines supplied by manufacturers. They also state that these manufacturers should also clearly state the life of vehicle which will help customers taking an informed buying decision. Some experts also pointed out that a hasty decision in this regard can have negative consequences on small entrepreneurs.

With these sudden proposals coming from the government we can clearly see that the government is in full swing to turn the things around but at what cost has to be identified & discussed at a panel of experts.

Meanwhile if you are interested in buying used commercial vehicles at fair price than a visit to Shriram Automall will certainly help you. They offer the widest range of used commercial vehicle with an option of easy finance available for all.

Emission Norms BS V & BS VI Implementation Dates Pre-Poned

The government on Saturday said that it has decided to advance the dates for implementation of the roll out of higher level Bharat Stage (BS) V & VI norms for the four-wheelers by three years.

The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways drafted a notification to roll out the BS-V and BS VI norms from April 1, 2019 & April 1, 2021 respectively.

As per the roadmap earlier lay down by the Auto Fuel Policy, BS-V norms were to be implemented from April 1, 2022 & BS-VI from April 1, 2024.

The Ministry’s decision does not mean that it will skip BS-V and go in for BS-VI standards directly. At one stage, there had been contemplation over skipping the BS-V stage for faster redressal of the pollution issues. But many automotive bodies, including SIAM, had opposed the skipping of the BS-V norms. The norms aim at the substantial reduction in NOx/4C levels.

The Ministry’s statement attributed the advancement of implementation dates to Nitin Gadkari’s “keenness” that the road transport sector must take the lead role in dropping the harmful effects of emissions on environment and climate change. This reveals a firm commitment to play a chief role in reducing vehicular emissions.

The Ministry said draft norms for two & three-wheeler categories will be notified shortly with advanced timelines similar to the four wheeler category.

Currently, nearly 35 cities in India follow the BS-IV norms with the rest adhering to the BS-III standards.

Different Ministries have been debating over the timeline for the introduction of the BS-V and VI emission standards.

Many countries in the West have already put a Euro-VI standard in place. BS-VI is its equivalent. As things stand, India is 5 years behind the emission standards already adopted by European countries.

According to the Centre’s expert committee, the automobile industry would require investments worth Rs 50,000 Crore for transitioning from BS-IV to BS-V. And an amount of Rs 60,000 Crore will be essential to produce BSIV/BSV diesel from refineries.

This Implementation would definitely lead to rise in price in new vehicle market and thus it would be difficult for people to own the vehicle. But being the leader in the used vehicle industry, Shriram Automall India Limited will come to the rescue of such people who can invest their resources in commercial vehicles and used cars in India

Super Sports Car Market To Be Back on Track In 2016

After a consecutive decline in the sales of super sports cars for three following years the super sports car market is expected to be back on vogue this year. The segment is expected to view a high single digit growth due to improving economic sentiment & return of big brands like Ferrari & Maserati.

The return of confidence can be proved by the fact that that two of the most expensive cars the limited edition variants of Aventador LP Roadster and the Aventador LP Coupe, carrying a price tag of about Rs 8 crore were sold by Lamborghini recently, in India.

Also The Italian Super Sports car maker Lamborghini launched its new entry level sports car the Huracan LP 580-2 in India (Rs 2.99 crore - ex-showroom New Delhi), which makes India the first market in Asia Pacific to get the vehicle.

The year 2014 due to rupee depreciation, spike in taxes the super sports car makers were not able to achieve the targeted number however this year they believe the sentiment in the market is stable & people are deciding quick on making the purchase decision. Fiat Chrysler Group Company also plans to inaugurate a new showroom in Bangalore & Mumbai. It has already setup a national sales company for Maserati.

With these major developments in the segment we are hopeful that the sales will increase on an increasing rate in the FY 15 & will continue to show positive signs in FY 2016 as well.

The 'entry SUV' or crossover-styled vehicle is a segment that's unique to India and a select few markets. It's the extension of the Indian car buyer's fondness for novelty, which resulted in the creation of sub-segments over the past decade including the 'entry-level sedan' and the various derivatives of compact cars and hatchbacks.

The key trigger for vehicle manufactures for shrinking the size of cars has been the government’s incentive to make smaller cars. A sub-4 meter vehicle attracts half the excise duty of 12 per cent for bigger vehicles. And these sub-4 meter sedans are making their way across the globe, potentially positioning India as a major export hub for this new segment.
