Two-wheeler Deals to Touch 20 Million Mark in FY2018

Two-wheeler deals are to achieve 20 million units in 2017-18, as indicated by industry body SIAM. The market for the two-wheelers in the country has already touched 18,451,023 units amid the April-February time. Industry has witnessed growth of 14.47% against 16,118,102 units sold in the local market amid a similar 11 month period in FY17.

After enforcement of GST, overall consumer sentiments had uplifted the growth of the sector, and in addition development in the assembling of two-wheelers are driving deals in the domestic market.

Good monsoon for two sequential years has further changed the face of rural markets. That has set more discretionary cash flow in the hands of the rural population, and in addition expanding scooterisation even in the provincial and semi-urban markets are likewise adding to the deals.

Because of the rural sales, motorcycles are starting to demonstrate a robust development with February 2018 deals up 26.48% developing to 1,053,230 units (832,695 units).

Scooters likewise encountered a solid uptick at 560,653 units amid the month against 452,295 units revealed in February 2017 an ascent of 23.96%.

The two-wheeler segment is accepting interest development from both the rural and urban markets. The moderately stifled volumes revealed in the last budgetary year amongst December and March is likewise supporting the volume development. The development uptick from the country is found in the starting level motorcycle sales – which backs up the fundamental transportation needs in less connected in rural and semi-urban markets.

The growth in investment by ladies uplifting the scooty sales is also a reason for speedier development.

Notwithstanding the development in domestic demand for two-wheelers, the recovery in oil costs has brought about enhanced request prospects from selective universal markets, combined with new markets explored by OEMs, is expected to drive export in the current financial.

CHEERS TO A SIMPLE & ROADSTER LIFE ON A PRE-OWNED BIKE

The word ‘Roadster’ rings the right bells in my head, where I imagine myself riding on a bike on a long road with scenic views of nature. After I completed my studies and decided to enter a job I knew my roadster life is about to begin. However, as I just started to work I was not having enough money to buy a new bike and as I also wanted to show my family that I have become independent I decided to go for a pre-owned bike.

The time I made my decision, I knew that I need a bike that is a looker, gives good mileage and roars fast in short, a bike that turn heads. But the main confusion was – where should I buy a used bike complete trust and transparency. Here is when one of my friend suggested Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL) from where he purchased a pre-owned car.

I am very glad that he suggested SAMIL to me, as I reside in Delhi; I decided to visit their Manesar Automall, which is about 40 Kms from my home. As I entered the Automall, I was thrown at a number of pre-owned vehicles & equipment lined up in an organized manner.

I did not wasted any time and headed straight to the line-up of pre-owned bikes, the inventory was vast and I could find bikes of all major brands. The bike that caught my attention was a pre-owned Royal Enfield Bullet, it was in a good condition and after a thorough inspection I decided to participate in their physical bidding event.

I paid the RSD amount of Rs. 20,000 to get the bidder book and I took a seat in the bidding hall. I was amused to see all vehicles ramped on the ramp and got sold one by one. I patiently waited for the bike and made sure to keep my bid high to win it.

After a good competition I emerged as the winner, now in another 7 days I need to pay the rest of the amount and take delivery. Employees at SAMIL also suggested that I can get the bike financed through STFC which is indeed a good option.

I must say I am really happy to be a customer of SAMIL, I bought the pre-owned bike I was looking forward to and at a price I am really happy.

The Two-Wheeler Industry & What to Expect in Future

The two wheeler industry from FY 2014-15 is fluctuating, where the sales of motorcycles have been down while the scooter segment has shown good improvement. However it’s the year 2016-17 where the industry experts are predicting high level of growth in all segments of the automobile industry in India.

As per a recent research conducted by CRISIL, says that the two wheeler segment will have a good growth overall in every vertical be it motorcycle, scooter or mopeds. 2015 witnessed a slight de-growth as rural income was weak due to lack of a normal monsoon.

See Also: Top 8 safety tips for motorcycle

CRISIL projects the year will have a good motorcycle sales only if we have a normal monsoon & scooter market will grow due to number of factors like improving rural and semi-urban infrastructure, rising proportion of women in the workforce, improving mileage & last but not the least income boost provided by Seventh Pay Commission to buoy demand.

As per the research Rural India will be contributing more in driving the growth & the number of two wheelers plying on the road will just be doubled by the end of year 2019-20.

As the demand for new two wheeler increases the used two wheeler market is also set to have a big boost as the current ratio between new & used two wheeler is 1:1 & taking the same ratio, by 2019 the used market will also be doubled in numbers.

6 Tips For Used Motorcycles Maintenance

Ongoing general maintenance will keep your motorcycle in great condition with little or no unpleasant surprises on the road. Modern bikes require less maintenance than they did in the 60's and 70's but they still need a lot more maintenance than a car. Being a reliable vehicle, bikes today need a lot more care while most of the owners do not have that much knowledge. Motorcyclists should be able to do at least basic maintenance on their bikes by themselves. The more care and maintenance you give to your bike the longer it will last.

Things to Check Regularly

There are dozens of parts on the bike that could be checked on a regular basis. But try to slim the list down to the most important items so you still have the time to ride.
Here is a basic list of some of the most important things to check for:

Tires

Keep a low pressure tire gauge (0psi - 80psi) in your bike tool bag at all times. Try to remember to check your tire pressure every time you go for filling up petrol.
Keep your tires correctly inflated. A tire that is very under-inflated generates a lot of heat which can lead to a blow out. Tires that run too hot also wear out more quickly. The most common motorcycle breakdown is for tire damage. Replace your tires sooner rather than later. If tread depth is 1-2mm it is time to replace your tires.

Brakes

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time and becomes less effective. Replace brake fluid every one to two years and your brakes will perform the best they can.
Motorcycles have up to two brake fluid reservoirs, one for the front, usually found on the handlebars and one for the back. Both should be checked regularly. Check, if your brake pads are thin and due for replacement. Beware - brake fluid, if spilt on paintwork eats right through to the bare metal.

Chain and sprockets, Shaft Drives, Belts

Lube your chain after each ride when the chain is warm so the oil can easily soak in and get into all the tight spots of the chain. These items are essential to the well being of your bike. If not well maintained you will end up spending a lot of money all too often to have them replaced.

Fuel

Check your fuel filter on a regular basis and replace every 2 years. Fuel is quite an often overlooked as a form of preventative maintenance on a motorcycle. Check the fuel filter make sure it is not clogged and looks clean and clear. Replace fuel filters every 2 years.

Oil

Check your oil level when it is cold before you go on a ride. If it is not at its high or max level top it up before going out. Make sure you regularly check and keep your oil level at its HIGH or MAX level. It is best to check your oil level on the bikes centre stand or when it is in a level position.

Battery

Check the fluid levels on each chamber. If any chamber is low, carefully top it up. Use only distilled water, NOT tap water. Tap water has minerals in it that will not do the battery any good. A battery only requires a little monthly maintenance to perform perfectly. Keep the battery charged to 100%, recharging when the lights dim, the starter sounds weak, or the battery hasn't been used in more than two weeks.
