Construction Equipment Industry Expecting to Reach 30% Growth in FY18

Infrastructure growth holds the key to the industry realizing its potential in India. In the 12th Five Year Plan, the government has earmarked approximately $1 trillion for infrastructure investment, with 40% of the funds to come from the private sector. In order to attract such investment, the Indian government has eased Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) norms for quite a few sectors of infrastructure development.

This is likely to spur the demand for the earthmoving and construction equipment, and if the industry's full potential is realized, the result could be a $16 billion to $21 billion industry by 2020.

Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL) the largest player in the used vehicle & equipment market understands that Indian Construction equipment segment is the most volatile segment of the industry.

As the segment faces ups & downs on regular basis. In 2007, for the first time it faced demand exceeding 50,000 units in India. Since, then due to modifications in the infrastructure, construction and mining sector in India, construction equipment segment has become one of the fastest growing segments of automobile industry in India.

In terms of the number of units sold, the Indian construction equipment market is dominated by six machine types. Of these, backhoe loaders, crawler excavators, mobile cranes and wheeled loaders face quite more demand.

At SAMIL, professional team for this particular segment while anticipating the customer demand and requirements make sure to provide best in class used construction equipment of every make and model at optimal prices through most reliably transparent platforms i.e. Physical Bidding, Online Bidding, Desktop Bidding and MySAMIL Mobile App.

In FY 2016-17, total of 68,000+ equipments were sold. Similar growth was witnessed in beginning of FY2017-18. Thereby the growth has been witnessed despite GST on construction equipment remaining at highest bracket of 28%.

Sameer Malhotra (CEO, Shriram Automall) added “2017, has been a great year for both new and used construction equipment industry. As the construction equipment sector grew 25-30% in August and September this year and thereby I am expecting similar performance for the rest of FY18. There have been some challenges but August and September numbers show that GST has been positive for the industry)

It’s the Constructive World of Pre-Owned Construction Equipment Industry

The entire world is under construction. So, what’s so constructive about this world? It’s the pre-owned construction equipment industry. Built on the bedrock of trust and transparency, the pre-owned construction equipment industry in India is riding on a positive growth track thanks to the introduction of new government policies & initiatives.
The union budget for 2016 has given the much required boost for this segment as government has allotted a humongous amount of Rs. 90,000 Cr. to the construction sector by clearing most of the stuck road & highway construction projects & introduction of new long term projects for the current FY.
Now as per the new announcements, the Smart city project got an official funding from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank who have agreed to provide $1-bn and 0.5-bn respectively to build these projects & Smart Cities that are currently under construction in Ahmedabad, Surat, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Udaipur, Jaipur, Ludhiana and Jabalpur are going to be beneficiaries of funding assistance.

With these new investments coming we are sure the sector will gain momentum again and demand for both new & used road building equipments will rise.

At Shriram Automall we are also witnessing a trend of maximum enquiries for used construction equipment on a day to day basis. Road rollers, bulldozers, excavators, tandem rollers are churning out maximum enquiries and are getting converted into sales.

Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL) is one such organised player which offers a multi-purpose bidding platform for the acquisition and disposal of pre-owned construction equipment. The company makes their exchange completely reliable as trustworthy knot between the buyers and sellers.
“At SAMIL, we cater to a huge variety of pre-owned vehicles along with used construction equipment. While aiming at long-lasting associations, we offer utmost transparency in every deal that we cater to.” – Mr. Sameer Malhotra, CEO of SAMIL

Tips to maintain efficiency of Back-Hoe Loaders

Due to its relatively small size and versatility, backhoe loaders are very common in urban engineering and small construction projects such as building a small house, fixing urban roads, etc. The nature of work for which backhoe is used is bound to cause a lot of wear and tear and regular maintenance of this machine is essential to ensure cost-effective operations, higher efficiency and longer life.

Few tips on how to maintain efficiency of backhoe loader:

Inspect the machine before using
Before you start operating your Backhoe Loader, take a walk around the machine and check if everything is fine with the loader or not. You can also find a daily checklist in the manufacturers’ kit or on the machine which will guide you to perform necessary tasks for checking the condition. At the front of the machine, check the cutting edge, if it is eroding and the bucket is getting impacted. On the back, check for broom and stick for any signs of damage. Check under the machine for any signs of leaks. Apart from this, check the engine compartment to make sure that air filter is working fine. Check the coolant and windshield water container levels too.

Greasing
Being a complex machine, with many moving parts it is important to check if all the parts of the machine are properly greased or not. The maintenance person must have the knowledge about all the locations on the machine that need regular greasing. Using the grease of quality and specification that has been recommended by the manufacturer is important. The grease may differ for the region in which the machine is being used, based on the temperature of the region. High quality grease may cost a bit extra, but the benefits that it delivers in terms of elongating the life of major wear areas, makes it worth the cost.

Over greasing is not good as well, as it may attract dust or dirt particles to stick with the grease, which in turn may result in to wear and tear.

Tire Maintenance
Never neglect your tire maintenance schedule. Regularly check to see if tires are flat or not and ensure that there are no cuts on the tires. Proper tire pressure is necessary to have a longer life for tires, low tire pressure can adversely impact the ride quality as well and the machine will be unstable and will be difficult to operate.

Clean Oil
As backhoe operates in dusty conditions, it is important to ensure that the oil in the system remains clean. Clean oil is essential for extended transmission and engine life, and for proper heath of hydraulic systems. Contaminated hydraulic system could adversely impact the hydraulic components. Extra care should be implied while checking oils, no two oils must be mixed. If unclean oil is used, you are exposing critical parts of your machine to risk and it could lead to high repair cost.
With the above mentioned tips you can easily take care of your back hoe loader & extend its life by at least 2 to 3 years increasing your ROI.

Acquire Excavators from Shriram Automall

Construction work includes 70% of work to be done with construction machinery. Thus, it is important that you are well versed with all the construction equipment, so that there are fewer chances of any hindrances or complications while operating them. Today we are talking about Excavator, which are very important for construction work.

Excavators are heavy construction equipment which consist a boom, bucket, stick, & cab on a rotating platform known as the "house”. An excavator uses hydraulics or a wire rope pulley system to dig holes or trenches & is also called a digger. Excavators are a natural progression from the steam shovels and often wrongly called as power shovels. All movement and functions of a hydraulic excavator are accomplished through the use of hydraulic fluid, with hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic motors. Due to the linear actuation of hydraulic cylinders, their mode of operation is basically different from the cable-operated excavators which use winches and steel ropes to accomplish the movements.

Excavators are also often called bobcats and backhoes. Along with using them on construction sites, you can use the excavator for heavy lifting in other industries as well, for example mining. An excavator can also be used for the following: demolition, material handling, river dredging, and landscaping.

Excavators are found in many different sizes depending on the job that is required to be done. Small excavators are called compact or mini excavators.  There are 2 types of compact excavators: zero-tail swing and tail swing.

• Drag line excavator
• Suction excavators
• Power shovels
• Skid steer excavators

Top 8 tips for Disposing Used Construction Equipment

Do you have used construction or farm equipment available to be sold off? It’s evident that you must be looking forward to dispose off your vehicle and get a good price for it. Most heavy equipment demands a significant pay out of cash to purchase initially and to preserve indefinitely, who wouldn't? So it only seems reasonable to want to earn a fair amount of your investment when it comes time to dispose it off.

Whether you are disposing one item or a fleet of equipment, take a look at this list of top 8 tips for disposing heavy equipment:

1- Know your equipment’s worth

Do the homework and research about equipment’s pricing and industry trends. Use the most recent info you can find and establish a price range for your equipment. Having a price range will be of assistance for you negotiate confidently and set practical price expectations.

2 - Research about Different Methods to Dispose

The type of equipment you are disposing, its condition and how quickly you need to complete the sale, there is a method best fit for your equipment and situation. To know what method would work best for you, educate yourself on the pros and cons of common methods, including unreserved auctions, reserved auctions, private sale, equipment dealers and equipment brokers.

3 - Contact an Expert

Consider the amount of time and effort you will need to put into the selling process and the number of latent buyers you can reach without the help of a skilled person in sales and marketing. You can save a lot of time and money easily with a full-service solution, mainly if you are a first time seller.

4 - Show The Best

The way your equipment looks can either discourage buyers or attract higher offers. Before you put the equipment for sale, consider refurbishing the used equipment. Refurbishing can include cleaning, glasswork, upholstery repair, painting, or everything in the refurbishing options. Typically, refurbishing is a small investment that gets you big returns.

5 - Target Your Buyers

Try to target the most equipment buyers you can, but don’t sacrifice quality for quantity. Work with an equipment seller that not only actively works with a large population of equipment buyers, but targets its marketing efforts based on the industry, your equipment is best suited towards and the region in which there is the most demand.

6 - Be Transparent In Your Approach

Provide detailed photos and information about your equipment. Include photos documenting the condition of the undercarriage, engine compartment, cab interior, etc. If you are using a selling agent or bidding company, choose one that publishes detailed equipment info online and also arranges on-site inspections.

7 - Screen Buyers

When you receive a satisfying offer, the last thing you want is for the deal to be completed. Screen potential buyers before you accept any offer or work with an agent who verifies the legitimacy of potential buyers on your behalf.

8 - Establish a Relationship for Future Deals

If you have a fleet that you will be turning over every 3-5 years, or predict the need to upgrade equipment in 5-10 years, make a good reputation with the prospective buyers and sales executives. The more you work together, the better your representative will understand your business and be able to get you the best results.
