ISRO Soon To Power Indian Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicle dream for the India automotive market is the latest buzzword among the manufacturers, though with the deadline of 2030 being cancelled has brought the sigh of relief among the manufacturers. As now they can focus on making automotives compliant with BS-VI.

Deadline for the electric vehicles might have been removed, but the dream and the working on the project is still intact. Now dreams seems not so farfetched as our government has asked Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to allow interested players including from private sector to obtain the technology for mass production of Lithium-Ion batteries for electric vehicles.

The lithium-ion battery technology ISRO developed was originally meant for space applications, but it has finally agreed to transfer them at a cost to interested companies in order to promote mass production of e-vehicles in India.

The glitch is that battery manufacturers will need to pay 10 million to ISRO as a one-time technology transfer fee. Thereby some experts are of the view that the electric vehicle technology is still in the development stage and the cost is substantially higher. Besides, the ecosystem for e-vehicles is not yet ready, charging stations are not in place, the cost of the battery itself is high.

Another concern is the flammability of the lithium-ion battery. In view of weather conditions, this is a technological challenge and cooling the battery will raise operational costs. Thereby electric vehicles, in view of their cost, will justify deployment only as public transport buses, taxis and three-wheelers. Hence ISRO and Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) have tied up to help develop low-cost lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles.

The cabinet secretary has asked ISRO to create a framework for enabling even interested private players to obtain the technology for mass production.

With all the steps government and manufacturers are taking its not far, when you will be driving a fully electric automotive in India. But till that day comes, play your part in making India pollution free, by acquiring BS-IV compliant used vehicles from Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL).

PAY E-CHALLANS FOR OVER-SPEEDING AND JUMPING RED LIGHTS IN DELHI

Delhi, be prepared to receive E-challans for jumping red lights and over-speeding as Delhi police along with Maruti Suzuki will be installing advance traffic management system on a 14 km long stretch along the Ring Road from Dhaula Kuan to Sarai Kale Khan.

Traffic Management System or the TSMS will feature advanced and high resolution cameras which will include Red Light Violation Detection System (RLVDS), Speed Violation Detection System (SVDS) and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system. These advance cameras will be able to capture red light jumping and over-speeding simultaneously. Installation of TSMS will be done by Maruti Suzuki who will also maintain the system for two years; the operation will be under the charge of Delhi police.

The initiative is taken in woke of the fact that last year around 1,495 people lost their lives to road accidents in Delhi, among the highest in the country. With an automatic and objective system in place, it is expected to instill discipline among road users.

Operational time of the project is defined to be early next year with a projected cost of Rs. 15 Crs. In addition, Maruti Suzuki and Delhi Police also plan to engage with academic institutions and social groups to spread awareness on traffic enforcement systems and safe driving practices in the national capital.

Wearing Half-Helmet or Headgear without ISI Mark Will Be Considered Helmetless!

Now, two wheelers riders will have to take a close look at the type of helmet they are using. As Bangalore city police on Thursday asked two-wheeler riders, including those on pillion, to wear only helmets with ISI mark.

Police commissioner of the state has given two-wheeler riders time till January 31 to buy headgears with ISI mark. If not from February 1, those wearing helmets without ISI mark will be penalized and they'd be treated as riding helmetless and will be charged with the prescribed fine for 'helmetless' riders i.e. Rs 100.

The drive is part of a state-wide endeavor to deter riders from using half-helmets and, instead, go for safer headgear of assured ISI quality. As headgears that cover the whole face come with ISI mark, Police consider other helmets as 'half-helmets' or those not conforming to BIS.

Not just that in UP with an attempt to curb the rising number of road accident deaths in the state, almost all of which the traffic department believes are a result of drivers not following rules, the government has decided to observe 'helmet and seat belt day' every Wednesday.

Traffic departments across the state, along with the transport department, will jointly conduct checks for helmets on two-wheeler riders and seat belts in four-wheelers. According to data from the traffic department, there were as many as 19,320 road accidents in UP in 2016, of which 59% were due to people not wearing helmets.

Also, wearing helmets has been made mandatory for all pillion riders across the state, under section 129 (wearing of protective headgear) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

So, let’s come together and help government in this initiative of making Indian roads safe for driving.

Now Delhi Government To Save Lives Of Accident Victims In DELHI!

image ref - http://www.dnaindia.com

Yes, you heard right Delhi government is to pay 100% hospital bills of accident victims. As according to Delhi government, approximately 15,000 to 20,000 people meet with or are affected by accidents in Delhi every year which results in deaths of as many as 1600 people.

Keeping the figures in mind, Delhi government has decided to bear the cost of treatment of victims under a new scheme.

To know more about this, Given below are few quick pointers for you to know...

• Anyone who meets with an accident in Delhi will be provided with the free treatment.
• It does not have any bar on the domicile (i.e. the state/country of his permanent residence) of the   person.
• It includes three kind of accidents – road accidents, fire as well as acid attacks!
• The best clause is that there is no upper limit to this ordinance. Which means that no matter how   much your bill turns out to be – it will be borne by the Delhi government.
• Moreover, it includes private hospitals. So, it does not matter where the treatment is undertaken; you are covered!

The particular move initiated by the government is aimed at saving lives of victims during the golden hour, as most people attempt to take road accident victims to a government hospital even if a private hospital in nearby, thereby denying treatment within the 'Golden Hour', which leads to loss of many lives. By implementing this scheme government aim to avoid that.

Cabinet has already approved the scheme, proving "Every Life Counts".

So, let’s appreciate government's action for the cause and pledge to never ignore the injuries of the accident victim.

Why Acquiring a Used Car at the End of the Year Is the Best Choice You Will Make!

The end of the year is upon us and if you are thinking of acquiring a car for yourself, then this is the right time to go through it. In fact, while we are on the topic you can acquire the choice-able used car model in a lot less money, while making it easy on your pocket.

We all are aware of the growing used car market, and the benefits it brings like little or no depreciation in the value, good quality desired cars in less money, reliable, better model in less money and what not. But, are you aware of the fact that acquiring a used car at the end of the year can bring you more benefits alongside the existing ones.

So, let’s read why you should get serious about acquiring the used car now!

Why December?
Dealers and manufacturers are looking to meet their annual sales goals, so many offer rich incentives. Also, the end of the year, especially in north India, is considered the wedding season and hence, mostly potential buyers are busy with their own chores, which create an extra leverage to extract some extra discounts or goodies.

      Stock Clearance
Any dealer doesn’t want to be left with the old stock while moving into 2018. Thereby they are willing to deal extensively.

 Increase In Price
Prices of vehicles increase on a YoY (year on year) basis and it’s better to purchase the used model of a latest vehicle, instead of the new one.

Year-End Offers
Straight up, more incentives and goodies already available from the dealers’ side means better value for the car to which we see no reason of denying.

In addition to the fact that they want to clear their inventory for new used vehicles, dealers and sellers are likely to want to try and hit their sales goals or get their used vehicles sold before the end of the year and the close of books.

So, what are you waiting for? Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL), the largest used vehicle and equipment provider offers the best range at optimal prices and thereby is the No.1 transaction Platform of India.

Shriram has tapped only a slice of a huge opportunity in CV segment: MD, STFC to ET

With the growing demand of commercial vehicles in India, we can consider that commercial vehicles (CV) play quite a vital role in growth of Indian Economy. After slightly tepid Q1, the commercial vehicle industry has seen a continuous growth.

Where overall sales at 151,837 units in Q1 (April-June 2017)  were down 9.08 % year on year (YoY), the commercial vehicle (CV) sector has recorded a sharp recovery in July driven by an uptick in the critical medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) segment, pent-up by demand post-GST and healthy replacement-led demand. As a result it is expected that overall Commercial Vehicle industry will find its momentum back where M & HCVs truck segment will grow by 6-7%, the LCVs by 7-8% and buses by 7-9%.

According to Umesh Revankar (MD, STFC), two factors that are boosting the demand for commercial vehicles in the country are the rural demand and e-commerce activity. Having good monsoon has helped rural India a lot as this year kharif crops output was quite good. Thereby that is the main activity from where the demand is coming. Rural demand is basically for used vehicle and probably smaller vehicles, LCVs, resulting in sustainable increase in LCV sales.

E-commerce activity is redistribution of goods within a city or outside of it or to individual requirement. This is another segment driving LCVs and smaller vehicles. Apart from that, construction activities are doing quite good in the country resulting in good demand related to construction vehicles.

Umesh Revankar to Economic Times (ET): “There is huge opportunity for us to cover other geographies where we have not covered. We are very strong in the south and to some extent in the west, but in north, east and central India, we are not very strong. By adding more to the network, we can increase our lending. I feel there is huge opportunity. The other lending happening earlier by money lenders or local financiers is slowly becoming more and more organized. So, demand for us, especially for used vehicles, is going up month on month.”

“With 2017, turning out to be the most challenging year for automotive industry, Shriram Automall India Limited(SAMIL) The No.1 used vehicle and equipment transaction platform in the country has stood strong. Now company with its already existing 72 Automalls, look forward to expand its reach further, so that every used vehicle and equipment requirement in the country could be fulfilled in the most organized and transparent manner.” Sameer Malhotra (CEO, Shriram Automall)

Indian Bus Market on the Growing Spree!

Indian road network is the 2nd highest in the world, which transports more than 60% of the goods from one place to other and 90% of India’s total passenger traffic. With the increasing improvement in connectivity between cities, towns and villages in the country and the requirement of people for easy mobility, road transportation has gradually improved.

Among all the automotives, India always had a huge potential for Bus segment. As it is one of the vital integral segments of Indian automobile industry. It is a common widespread public transport. The industry comprises of buses that are categorized into school buses, mini buses, tourist buses, deluxe buses, commuter buses and others depending on the use.

In the last fiscal (FY2016-17) Indian Bus Industry grew at 5.70% with 98,137 units against FY2015-16. The industry in FY2016-17 grew on the back of demand of State Transport Undertakings (STUs) & City Bus Undertakings (CBUs). A big surge in STU orders after a gap of 4 years was witnessed, indicating renewed focus of various state governments and city councils on public transport.

With the increasing demand of convenient mobility and the motto of aggressive innovation in India, government has taken very aggressive decisions on the infrastructure & on the regulations such as max speed of 150 Km/hr on the Delhi corridor, prepone implementation of Bharat Stage (BS)-VI emission standards by a year, to April 2020, AC fitment etc.

While taking one step ahead, government has decided to implement bus body code AIS: 052, which will ensure that buses are built as per stipulated standards related to safety, design and comfort. To demonstrate their capabilities to build buses as per the safety standards set by ARAI, CIRT and ICAT, every bus manufacturing unit will have to obtain accreditation certificate according to this code.

Also, now bus industry is on the spree of bringing electric buses to the market, helping government to meet its goal of making Indian Automotive Segment completely electric by 2030. Many manufacturers have already started their trials for the same. With traditional CV manufacturers looking at increasing their reach into international markets, Indian bus market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10% by 2020.

With new commercial vehicle industry rising, we can witness the robust growth of used commercial vehicle industry as well. Shriram Automall India Limited (SAMIL) is the leading name to acquire best pre-owned commercial vehicles of every make and model in India.

Petrol/ Diesel Cars Won’t Last Long!

With Indian Government dream to make India, completely electric by 2030, consider petrol and diesel cars on their way out. After all being the fourth largest consumer of energy, with total energy consumption of 638 million tons of oil, India is now looking forward to live green with electric vehicles, as the new buzz.

In the country, concept of hybrid and e-vehicles is quite a new concept for many. But if you look back at the history of vehicles, you will learn that, “electric vehicles” is quite an old concept, which goes way back in mid-19th century (some time in 1830s).

Now, automakers as well as the government are gearing up to bring electric mobility to the country all over again with advance models that too very fast. Next year, a number of electric cars will hit the road and you will get to see more charging stations.

Government Role

Adoption of electric vehicles requires mass-level efforts, as the biggest problem in the way of electric mobility in India is lack of charging infrastructure. India has nearly 56,000 fuel stations but only a little more than 200 charging stations. Thereby electric mobility requires a big push. This has already happened, by government ordering to crop up more charging stations by next year and by placing orders for 10,000 electric cars with private companies.

Beginning of Change:

•Indian Oil Corporation became India's first oil marketing company to set up a charging station at a       petrol pump in Nagpur.
•Japanese automakers Suzuki Motor and Toyota Motor have finalized an agreement to manufacture       and sell electric vehicles in India within three years.
•Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) is readying an electric vehicle strategy aligned with the needs of      the Indian market.
•HCIL, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese carmaker, is evaluating developing country-specific         battery electric vehicles addressing the issue of affordability and its suitability under Indian traffic     conditions.

“We as a company are glad to see all the efforts and initiatives that government is taking. Shriram AutomallIndia Limited (SAMIL) as a whole, while playing its part in the National Development, look forward to update its inventory with used e-vehicles/hybrid vehicles to promote, more sustainable means of transport in India” said Sameer Malhotra (CEO, Shriram Automall)

Government of India to Make Test for Driving License Stricter!

Government plays a very vital role in a citizen’s life by implementing laws and regulations as they deliver warnings for our safety, thereby we must follow them, as good laws are the offspring of bad actions only. With evolving times laws for automobile has evolved from 1914 Act to Indian Motor Vehicle Act1924 Motor Vehicles Act, 1939 which came into force in 1940.

Later, Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 was introduced which regulated all aspects of road transport vehicles including both transport and non-transport vehicles. The Act provides details of legislative provisions regarding licensing of drivers/conductors, registration of motor vehicles, control of motor vehicles through permits, special provisions relating to state transport undertakings, traffic regulation, insurance, liability, offences and penalties, etc.

To exercise the above legislative provisions Government of India created Central Motor Vehicle Rules in 1989 and made sure that all the rules under the Act are enforced in a well organized manner, as no laws are better than laws not enforced. Yet with increasing number of cars on the road, we can witness number of juveniles, adults breaking the rules and falsely acquiring the driving license, resulting in increased number of road accidents. The number of accidents on Indian roads stood at 4, 80,652, resulting in 1, 50,785 deaths, which revealed drivers’ fault is a major factor, resulting in 84% of the total accidents in 2016.

Thereby, to bring down this number, the Government has joined hands with India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, to set up automated driving test centers at 10 locations in the capital over the year. As we all know how till now, driving tests are conducted manually by the driving inspector and how those turn out.

These centers will comprise of a scientifically laid test track, integrated IT network and several high definition cameras.
