Indian automobile industry is one of the largest industries,
in the whole world with 23.96 million vehicles
in FY 2015-16, as an annual production.
With the increasing population, young
driver rate is increasing as well. As a result both middle class & young
population has made Two-wheeler sector leader of India Automobile Industry,
with 81% market share.
The sector has witnessed a number of
investors, investing heavily to cope up with the growing demand. According to
the data released by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP),
industry has attracted foreign direct investment (FDI) worth US$13.48 billion
in “April 2000 to June 2015”.
Government on its part is taking all the
necessary initiatives to boost the growing demand even more by encouraging foreign investment in the
automobile sector and thereby allowing 100% FDI under the automatic route.
Government also focuses on making
automobile manufacturing the main driver of "Make in India" initiative, while expecting the passenger
vehicle (PV) market to triple to 9.4 million units by 2026, boosting the sales
in the tractors segment. Government provided Union budget of over 850,000 crore
(US$127.5 billion) in 2015-16 to farmers. Govt. will also promote eco- friendly
vehicles i.e. CNG-based vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and electric vehicles in the
country for minimal air pollution. 5 per
cent ethanol blending in petrol will be mandatory.
India Automobile, register marginal growth
of 3.07% year to year with production of over 14.25 million vehicles including
private vehicles (PVs), commercial vehicles (CVs), three wheelers and two
wheelers.
In 2000 to tune in with the initiative to
reduce vehicular pollution, government itself unveiled the standards titled
"India 2000" which was later upgraded to be known as Bharat stages. These standards are
quite similar to the European standards, and are implemented in an effectively
efficient manner with latest upgrade. At first initiative was mannerly phased,
in 13 cities & later in rest of the Nation.
13
cities where Bharat Stage IV was
first imposed are as follows: Delhi (NCR), Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Surat, Kanpur, Lucknow, Solapur, and Agra.
