BUDGET 2017 – HERE IS WHAT THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY IS EXPECTING

2016 was a rough year for the automobile industry; it has gone through a roller coaster ride with some government decisions like diesel ban, GST and demonetization hampering the overall industry growth projected for FY 2016-17. Auto industry contributes 7.1% to the country’s GDP and has been on an evolving note. It is the only industry that took the PM Modi’s Make in India project on its head and contributed the best.

The industry is currently recouping and hence a lot of friendly announcements are expected in the Budget 2017 to further boost growth.

Relaxation on excise duty - The industry is expecting lowered as well as uniform excise duty structure. This will essentially reduce vehicle cost and boost sales.

Faster implementation of GST - The Industry will be expecting the implementation of GST, proposed to come into effect from July 1, 2017, without further delay.

Clarification on vehicle scrappage policy - The industry will be keeping its ear to the ground for announcements on incentives, timeline and fleet modernisation under the scrappage program.

More incentives for hybrid and electric vehicles – Along with the FAME India scheme, the industry still expects lower taxes and benefits for the segment to grow in the country.

Reduction in interest rates - Indian automobile industry will be expecting government to reduce interest rates on auto loans for passenger as well as commercial vehicles.

All of us are hoping for a favorable budget this year as last year despite all positive scenarios the industry felt short of its projection. This year if all of these announcements are made than there will be no stopping as the industry alone contributes a lot in terms of revenue, employment, Foreign Direct Investment. As the new and old vehicle market go hand in hand, we expect tremendous boost in the demand of pre-owned market altogether. Sameer Malhotra, CEO SAMIL

INDIAN TRACTOR INDUSTRY ALL SET TO BE BACK ON TRACK

Tractors Industry which was witnessing steady single digit growth for the past three years are all set to post a double digit growth this fiscal even in this scenario of demonetization which has hit the country adversely.

As per several tractor manufacturers, tractor sales is likely to grow by 18-19% to 5.8-5.85 lakh units by the end of this fiscal. If this comes true, it will be the second highest sales volume recorded in the domestic tractor market in a year after sales surged 20% to a record high of 6,34,151 units in 2013-14. Between April and October 2016, tractor sales accelerated 25% over that in the previous year. After falling 14% in November, sales picked up in December to grow 7% over that a year ago.

At the same time the pre-ownedtractor segment is also showing a decent growth in the past one year, organized players like Shriram Automall India Limited are receiving good demand for used tractors thanks to the favorable outcomes this year in terms of decent monsoon and sowing of rabi crops.

Industry pundits are expecting a good demand in the year to come as the new budget for FY 2017-18 is all set to boost the spending capacity of all individuals across the country and with the implementation of GST can make tractors cheaper and easy to afford.

The ongoing year has already created a favorable market scenario for the farm equipment segment and in the next FY we are expecting to have a positive increase in the demand for used tractors are the government is all set to focus more on the agricultural sector. Also people often opt to buy a pre-owned tractor through finance and put their hard earned money in avoiding crop failure.’ Said Sameer Malhotra, CEO SAMIL

ON ROAD EMISSION TESTING NOW BEGIN AUTOMOTIVE RESEARCH ASSOCIATION OF INDIA STARTS VEHICLE TESTING

Vehicular pollution has always been one of the major concerns of Indian Government & to combat that various state government has introduced a number of initiatives, most popular being the ‘Odd & Even Scheme by Delhi Government. Later the government informed the automobile industry that it needs to upgrade their vehicles to BH VI compliant engines by the year 2020.

With its aim to contribute its part the Automotive Research Association of India starts on road emission testing in Pune to collate data about tail-pipe emissions. Currently only lab based testing is compulsory in India however the on-road testing will be compulsory in India too by 2023, three years after the implementation of Bharat Stage-VI regime on April 1, 2020.

Experts consider the on-road testing to be a way more efficient model to measure emissions. “If you carefully study emissions notification under BS-VI, it prescribes the closeness with which real emissions happen with respect to the standard lab condition. We will start collecting data (for BS-IV compliant vehicles) on some sections of expressways, national and state highways, cities and village
roads. This will be done in a mix and match manner,” Rashmi Urdhwareshe, director, ARAI, said.

Mr. Sameer Malhotra, CEO Shriram Automall said ‘Vehicular pollution in my view does not contribute a large extent but what’s important is when the industry moves to BS VI engines they will contribute much less then what the number is now. Collecting data for BX IV vehicles & then comparing it will BS VI compliant vehicle will help the agency to find what I think will be called a stark difference. I am optimistic about the years to come that India will rise high and contribute less pollution in every possible way’

What is a Backhoe Loader?

A Backhoe Loader, commonly known as a digger in layman terms, is earthmoving equipment that comprises of a tractor like unit installed with a loader-style bucket sort of component on its front and a backhoe on its back. It is one of the highly beneficial and frequently employed tools within the urban construction projects, particularly owing to its comparatively compact size and shape than the other equipments available in the market. The backhoe and loader are separate components and have different applications; they can be used independent of each other. A backhoe is primarily required for digging, mining and breaking while the loader, as the name suggests, remains confined to loading alone, for filling the carriers which in turn shift the materials from one place to another.

It is profoundly employed at a number of places such as construction sites, civil construction sites, mining, digging/excavation, small demolitions, minimal transportation of the construction materials, assisting the other building equipments, landscaping and paving roads etc.

Indian Automobile Industry expected to grow fourfold, thanks to the Automobile scrapping policy

As the country is waking up for an environmental concern of air pollution, the government proposed a car scrapping policy under which any vehicle of 10 years and above can be scrapped with some benefits offered to buy a new car. Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport and Highways believes that the new incentive policy has a potential that could even quadruple the turnover of the automobile industry.

”We will put the vehicle scrapping policy on a website within a week to seek suggestions and based on that we will seek Finance Ministry's approval. Once approved, it will be sent for the Cabinet nod,” Gadkari told PTI in an interview.

The incentive scheme will feature an excise rebate of 50% on new vehicle purchase, additionally respecting the demand from the government the automobile industry will also be offering additional benefits over and above the government incentives like discount on purchase of new vehicle if a person provides the certificate of scrapping to the dealer.

The government is also considering a financial incentive of up to Rs 1.5 lakh on surrender of vehicles that are over 10 years old to check pollution and address safety concerns.

Small vehicles will be offered an incentive of up to Rs 30,000 for those surrendering small vehicles while trucks could be in for total benefits worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

This new move is intended to enable the entry of cleaner vehicles on the roads that emits less pollution when compared to the old ones. Also the move when implemented will also increase the demand for new vehicles all around the country as large number of people will opt to change their old car amid the incentives they will be getting.

While the policy will take some time to get fully implemented meanwhile sell your used vehicles at Shriram Automall anywhere in India. The company follows an easy process to buy or sell used vehicles in India through their transparent bidding platforms.

The pre-owned car market will grow 2.5 to 3 times the new car market in a few years

Auto companies have been raising vehicle prices, citing rising input costs. Why auto companies say that input costs have gone up when prices of most commodities seem to be coming down?
OEMs have been absorbing increasing input costs in the past years which have been eating into their profit margins. The consumption of steel, aluminium, rubber, glass and plastic is high in the automotive industry. Raw material costs are less volatile as they are acquired under long-term agreements. Over a period of years, the number of components in the vehicles has also increased, which has resulted in higher consumption of raw materials. Strict government norms on safety, emissions and constantly changing technology have a significant impact on the supply chain cost. Stagnant sales, halt of excise sops and increasing inputs cost has made OEMs transfer a percentage of this cost to the end-consumer.
Now the excise sops have gone. How will it affect car sales?
