ABS, Airbags to be obligatory in India from April’2019

Fatal crash rates in India, is highest in the world and part of this stems from car makers, producing vehicles without safety features for money conscious buyers.

Safety features like ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) and airbags are mostly associated with premium cars in the price conscious automobile industry. People often tend to overlook these features in a verge to save some money on the car they buy. However the ministry of road transport & highway issued an official statement, making it mandatory. This move is fundamentally aimed to make Indian cars fit with all the safety parameters kept in mind.

In fiscal year (2015-16) Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH) made the anti-lock braking system (ABS) mandatory for commercial vehicles (CVs), which was indeed an important step leading to road safety on Indian Roads. ABS turned up to be quite beneficial feature for especially for wide range of heavy CV’s which were prone to skid & wheels likely to lock more often.

ABS is a feature which uses wheel speed sensors to determine if one or more wheels are trying to lock up during braking. If a wheel tries to lock up, a series of hydraulic valves limit or reduce the braking on that wheel. This prevents skidding and allows you to maintain steering control which makes it an efficient & essential feature which must be installed in every vehicle especially with the growing number of raging young drivers.

Government is playing its crucial role in making road ways safer by implementing foremost measures for road safety. Though according to government’s rough estimate, including both airbags & ABS will increase 10% to the cost of the base model.

Life is a one way road, where you can look back but can’t go back, so it’s better to go safe than cheap!

Keeping this in mind government is also planning to set up its own safety authority i.e. Bharat National Car Assessment Programme (NCAP), which will rate vehicles based on their safety. India will also have a rating system for cars based on their fuel efficiency. (MoRTH) have set October’2017 as a deadline for all the new models to come to pass the minimum frontal and car crash test along with pedestrian protection tests.

All these measures which government is taking show their objective of better and safe tomorrow with vehicle compliant with all future regulations.

Mr. Sameer Malhotra (CEO, Shriram Automall) shared his views “I am glad to see that government is taking all the essential steps in an organized manner betterment of roadways in India, while keeping in mind the worth of driver’s life. Installation of these features will also increase the life and road value of vehicles.  Being the no.1 provider of used automotive in India, I look forward to follow these while playing my part for better tomorrow with safety on board.”

SAMIL while playing its part & following government rules has an inventory full of used CV’s that came in fiscal year (2015-2016) with ABS compulsorily installed at the time of manufacturing only. So if you’re looking forward to acquire used vehicles compatible with new coming rules, your nearby Automall is the right place to go.
