In a move to overcome the problem of plastic waste disposal in the country the government has made it mandatory for the road developers to use the plastic waste along with bituminous mixes for construction of new roads. Plastic will add to the longevity of roads by making them water resistant and also increasing the resistance of roads to change in weather.
Any road developer within a 50KM of margin from any city with a population of over 5 lakhs will have to use plastic waste along with hot bituminous mixes for road construction. The guideline was recently released by the government & it clearly indicate that in case of non availability of waste plastic the developers will have to take special consent from the road & transport highway ministry.
The new rule will also help the local bodies who are not able to generate a lot of income to sell the waste generate by cities to road developers.
As per a study conducted by Central Pollution Control Board, India generates 56 lakhs tones of waste every year. 15,000 tonne of waste is generated by 60 large cities. Taking these observations seriously earlier this year Supreme Court pointed out that the country is sitting on a plastic time bomb & some corrective measures should be taken into considerations.
The government is also encouraging the state governments to follow the same policy as it will only bring better & effective results.
With these corrective measures taken by government to effectively use the plastic waste generated by the country will not only help us reduce it marginally but also contribute what little we can as a country to reduce the carbon emission.
If you are a construction company owner & looking for used construction equipment than paying a visit to your nearest Shriram Automall will not only help you buy the best equipment at a fair price but also get the same financed under the same roof.
