Under
motor vehicle act, Government amends it mandatory for manufacturers to fit AC’s
in the driver’s cabin of all new trucks sold from 1 April 2017.
In
India truck drivers spend long hours in long-distance hauling even in adverse
environmental condition like extreme cold or extreme heat, which is quite a
tiresome job. But with AC being mandatory in all the trucks, drivers can now
take a sigh of some relief along. As “Air-conditioning in trucks is not a
comfort or a luxury feature but a feature that can prevent many serious road
accidents, while making drivers cover more kilometers with less or no driver
fatigue & more comfort & attention on road.
Government is remarkably taking
all the necessary steps for the betterment of Road Transport in India while
keeping in mind the health & comfort of commercial vehicle drivers. It
perhaps is one of those conscious efforts that govt. is taking to make India a
developed country as soon as possible while making it possible to attain some
degree of physical comfort for people
engaged in a punishing profession of carrying cargo year-round in often harsh
weather and terrain.
With AC coming in all the Truck
cabins, government is looking forward to remove the misconception that AC leads
to additional fuel consumption, as fact is that Non-AC Automotives weather
heavy or light are driven with open windows, which results in extra fuel
consumption because of all the wind coming in and its drag.
According to the research and
direct comparison this has been proven that efficient AC Trucks provide better
mileage, thereby providing overall profitability for truck customers.
Under Motor Transport Workers Act,
1961, government also guarantees a minimum wage of Rs14, 500 per month (in
Delhi) along with provident fund, gratuity and medical services, as Truck
Drivers affect the Indian National
Economy directly and there health & working condition is the topic of major
concern.
Sameer Malhotra (CEO, Shriram
Automall) added “I am glad to see all the
major steps government is taking for improving work condition of truck drivers
in India, as these people work hard day in and day out to meet deadlines of
importing & exporting goods. This move will also put truck manufacturers in
a fix to produce Trucks only with built in AC & according to Bharat Stage IV emission norms”
