Since 2013-14, petrol variant passenger vehicles started to gain popularity over diesel variants. Petrol-run variants accounted for 56% of India's passenger vehicle sales in 2015-16. However, 42% petrol variant passenger vehicles were sold in 2012-13 against 58% diesel variant. In recent times, the trend has been much clear as the Supreme Court impose a ban on the sale of large diesel vehicles in the National Capital Region over pollutions concerns in late 2015. Consecutively, share of petrol variants jumped to 59% in March 2016. So, OEMs have started to make investment to readjust the pattern.
