Maruti India’s one of the most anticipated
projects to enter the Light Commercial Vehicle segment in India has finally
taken some concrete shape. The company will launch its Super Carry truck later
this year and will also export it to markets like South Africa from June 2016.
The light commercial vehicle is
capable to shedding load up to 750 Kg and is 3.8 meters long and 1.56 meters
wide, and features a load deck measuring 2.18 x 1.49 meters. It has a ground
clearance of 175 mm and a turning cycle of 8.6 meters diameter.
In India the truck will be
powered by a 0.8-liter twin-cylinder diesel engine used on the Celerio, however
for the South African market it will get a 1.2-liter GB14 four-cylinder petrol
engine with multi-point fuel injection. Talking about the power, it develops 72
hp at 6,000 rpm and 101 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm and is paired to a 5-speed
manual gearbox driving the rear wheels. The company also claims that super
carry is the most fuel efficient in its class and comes with a 3 year, 1,
00,000 KM warranty.
In India the company is planning
to introduce a CNG/LPG option along with the petrol version. The truck is
expected to be launched at a price of Rs. 5.58 lakhs and will give tight
competition to Tata Ace.
