Renault Duster the model which really got the company’s sales on fire. It was not that it did not sell any car before but the sales were not up to the mark for those models. With the Kwid, it's ready to go big. With this, Renault plans to increase its market share from a mere 2 per cent to 5 per cent.
Everything on the Kwid is brand-new - platform, engine, styling and cabin layout. The Kwid is based on a new CMF-A platform. CMF, by the way, stands for Common Module Family. It's similar to VW's MQB platform and Merc's MFA structure. It's a flexible platform and a lot of new Renaults will be based on this platform. Under the hood of this nicely-designed car is a 3-cylinder, 799cc petrol engine. It churns out 53bhp and 72Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine and the gearbox are cast in aluminum to save weight.

The Kwid is 3679mm long, 1579mm wide and 1471mm tall. It is bigger than the Alto and the Eon. What's also a segment-best is the wheelbase: 2422mm. It allows for more room in the cabin, with more space than any other compact hatch for the rear passengers. The boot, too, is bigger than that of any other compact hatch. The volume space is 300 liters.
Renault calls it "SUV-inspired" because the Kwid boasts rugged plastic cladding at the front, side and rear. It sits much higher than its competition, with the lowest point on the underbelly being 180mm off the ground.
Inside the cabin, the Kwid gets toys no other car in its segment gets. It has a full digital dash and multimedia console that's borrowed from the Duster. It's got Bluetooth connectivity, satnav, a 7-inch touch screen, USB and Aux-in.
